NEW Sunshine Edition available at Digital Project Life!

crobinson_092913lg

Project Life Sunshine Edition and the seasons and holidays theme packs are now available at Digital Project Life.  The Sunshine Edition was designed by Elsie Larson (I met her once at CKU in 2006—I wonder if she would remember me?) and Emma Chapman. The Sunshine Edition is an eclectic, vintage style in a bright color palette. Basically, it’s fun and inspirational to create with and you will want to use it.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

In the above layout I paired this eclectic kit with some Silhouette files and created a layout in no time featuring pictures of Brandi’s summer trip to New Zealand where she went on a Lord of the Rings tour (lucky girl!).

Here’s a peek at the Sunshine Edition available at Digital Project Life.

Unity Stamp Company Challenge Day 5

Day 5 Taglg

Day 5—LAST day of the tag challenge at the Facebook Unity Show & Tell Group Page. There’s still time--get your tags done—and share your pretty creations. Please!

The above tag is my Day 5 submission.  The pretty little girl and bunny are from the Let Beauty Surround You Itty-Bitty stamp set by Phyllis Harris from Unity.  I paired that stamp with a sentiment of another Itty Bitty—Play in the Sun.  Today was THE perfect day to get outside and experience the fall beauty.  It’s not too late for me to get out and enjoy it.  PERFECT weather.  The sun is from the July 2013 KOM and the little butterfly is from the August 2013 KOM.  Chicken Wire background was also used.

Unity Stamp Company Tag Challenge Day 4

slow and steadylg

Day 4 of the tag challenge is going on at the Facebook Unity Show & Tell Group Page.  Just ONE MORE DAY.  I’m pretty sad about that as I’ve been grinning all week making these tags—it can’t be almost the end.  There’s still time to participate, though.  Get your tags done.

The above tag is my Day 4 submission.  Slow and Steady is another one of my all-time favorite Itty-Bitty stamps from Unity.  I paired that stamp with the sentiment of another Itty Bitty—Destination Happiness.  That Itty Bitty has the cutest trailer on it, but I just wanted to use the sentiment with the Slow and Steady set.  Slow and Steady puts a smile on my face and the sentiment couldn’t be better paired with it.  Who cares if you’re not trailblazing through the pack, as long as you keep going and have fun while you’re getting there.

Unity Stamp Company Tag Challenge Day 3

Day 3 Taglg

1235344_10202142965639417_495969589_n

It’s Day 3 of the tag challenge at the Facebook Unity Show & Tell Group Page!  I think I’m going to see this challenge to the end. I hope you do, too.  I’m enjoying the inspiration and seeing how stamps I own, too, look through others’ eyes in their creations.

The above tag is my Day 3 contribution.  I thought I’d go for a more subtle look to my tag today. The focal point of the tag is from the Unity Stamp Company Itty Bitty stamp entitled Love Birds which was paper-pieced using a Crate Paper collection digital kit.  The sentiment is from Unity’s August 2013 KOM.  I was feeling a bit sentimental and blessed today while making my tag and couldn’t help thinking how great things are going with my marriage and family—I love us all!  What do you think about while getting crafty?

The above tag is my Day 2 submission.  Frazzled is one of my all-time favorite Itty-Bitty stamps from Unity.  She’s such a cutie!

To give Frazzled some dimension, I adhere her to the tag using some 3D glue dots and then applied some glossy accents to her eyes and heart.

Project Life Theme Packs—Teen Boy

crobinson_092313lg

Digital Project Life has 10 brand new Project Life Theme Packs.  A theme pack is a smaller kit of Project Life cards with a particular theme. The new theme packs include sports, teen, school, and graduation. You can purchase these theme packs for 20% off the regular price until Sunday, September 29, 2013.

Sometimes I’m inspired to use Project Life products for something other than memory keeping.  Here’s an example.  In the above card I was inspired to use filler cards from the Teen Boy Theme Pack by Lili Niclass to make a birthday card that can be utilized for your teen’s birthday or a friend’s or co-worker’s birthday.  The card base is a folding business card design from Silhouette America.  The sentiment is a mix of a Silhouette America design with font.  The dimensional flower is a Silhouette America design by Lori Whitlock.  Pretty easy-peasy card to brighten someone’s day.

Here’s a peek at the Teen Boy Theme Pack available at Digital Project Life.

Hello. Autumn!

crobinson_092113lg

What a perfect day to add to my newly found obsession—my art journal planner!  The weather outside was cooperative, mostly rain, wind, and cooler temperatures.  Just the right time of year for me to enjoy my crafty nest.  On this page, I used a print from Nancie Rowe Janitz’s Autumn Canvas Collection (coming soon to jessicasprague.com) as the background, the stamped collage from Unity Stamp Company’s August Kit of the Month, and some Silhouette designs to complete the page.  The word “autumn” was placed on the journal page using the Silhouette sketch pen.  Inktense pencils were used to color the collage on top of the printed background.  The butterflies in the collage were given dimension by using them on canvas, sewing them in place on the page, and bending their little wings slightly toward the middle of their bodies.  The heart was colored in using an Inktense pencil, then outlined with a distress marker, and sewn into place on the page, bending it toward its middle for dimension.  I had a fun time getting lost in my own little world today.

Here’s a peek at Nancie’s new collection coming soon to jessicasprague.com.

NEW Heritage Edition Project Life Full Collection

crobinson_091613lg

To our children we give two things. One is roots. The other is wings.

Perfect quote for the basis of a new layout about my daughter, Brandi.  This past May she graduated from Sacramento State University with her BA in deaf studies with highest honors.  SHE earned it.  This young woman paid her dues by working nearly full-time and earning scholarships to help fund her education.  She did it all on her own and has paid her fees in full!  I’m constantly in awe of her accomplishments and how responsible she is at such a young age. She’s my hero.

Brandi has been traveling since she was a young teen, starting with visiting our nation’s capital in junior high with her class.  Later in high school she became a world traveler as a student ambassador starting with Australia, then Malta, Italy, and France.  This past summer she was able to get away again.  This time to New Zealand.  Over the years, we’ve enjoyed her pictures and her travel stories.  We’ve seen her transformation.  No matter how far she travels, she always wants to come home and share her experiences with us and bring her brothers and sister souvenirs and treats she has accumulated for them while traveling.

The above layout displays a picture of her graduating from Sac State this past May and the other two pictures were taken on her recent trip to New Zealand.  The one at the top shows a picture of the wing of the plane she was in while traveling to a destination in New Zealand and the one on the bottom shows just how adventurous she was while in New Zealand—bungee jumping!

We are all so very proud of her accomplishments and the responsible, yet adventurous, woman she’s become.  We look forward to many future memories!

For the layout, I used filler cards, journal cards, and patterned papers from the NEW Heritage Edition Full Collection now available at Digital Project Life.  The butterflies, heart, arrow with sentiment/tab, scallop life card frame, and instaframe were filled with prints from the digital kit and were print-and-cut with my Silhouette Portrait machine.

New-to-Me Art Journal Planner with NEW Kits by Nancie Rowe Janitz

crobinson_091413lg

I found another PLANNER—my new obsession!  This time at EcoThrift in Sacramento for $2.50.  LOVE that place.  I’m not going to cover this one as the outside color is to my liking, it’s leather is very nice and soft, with a pocket on the front cover.  It holds 5-1/2-x-8-1/2-inch inserts which is perfect for my art journal.  I made the insert a cut file, so that I can print-and-cut pages using my Silhouette Portrait.  That makes the process smooth and easy, therefore FUN!  The above page is the very first page in my new-to-me art journal planner and the one below is my second page.  I can’t wait to get started on more!

crobinson_091513lg

For both pages, I used Scrap Arts Start 7 by Nancie Rowe Janitz as the background--NOW available at jessicasprague.com--along with some Unity Stamp Company stamps with Tim Holtz Distress Markers, and added some machine stitching to the Halloween-themed page.  Nancie’s Doodle Stickers Kit was used in the dress of the stamped character on the first page.  Here’s some more information regarding Nancie’s NEW kits.

Fabric Composition Book Cover with Appliqué

unity contest lg

I made the above fabric composition journal cover using printed appliqués made from a digital image and sentiment. If you're a beginning sewist, here's a link to the tutorial that I used to make the fabric journal cover: http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/08/tutorial-journal-covers.html

The tutorial was easy to follow. Once that was sewed and ironed, I then filled the images in PSE with Amy Tangerine's Sketchbook digital prints from acdigitals.com and printed/cut them in conjunction with my printer and Silhouette Portrait which cut the images like appliqué. Then I applied them to the fabric journal cover and applied some bling to the middle of the flowers.  This is just a light synopsis of the process.

Below is a picture of the first page of this composition journal.  It’s going to be my new stamp journal. I stamped/cut some Unity Stamp Company Fashionistas. They are just adorable as always and make me happy!

Digital Paper Piecing with Crate Paper’s Fourteen Collection & a Unity Stamp

crobinson0127lg

Did you know that you could paper piece a rubber stamp digitally?  Well you can.  The proof is in the above picture.

In the above card, I used my Silhouette Portrait’s Print-and-Cut feature to make these digital (and rubber) elements come to life. I scanned in one of my favorite Unity Stamps (Rain or Shine), filled it with prints from Crate Paper’s Fourteen Collection in Photoshop Elements, and saved it as a png file. Then I retrieved it in the Silhouette software, resized it to approximately 4-inches (the original is only 2-1/2-inches), and used the Print-and-Cut feature. Voila! Digital paper piecing with rubber stamps! Don’t be afraid to do this. It will bring more versatility to your rubber stamp collection. Many times I’ve colored in and/or paper-pieced rubber stamps, wishing that the images were just a little bit bigger or that the process was a bit easier, don’t you agree? We can all appreciate this look, right? With a scanner, printer, and a digital die cutter as powerful as a Silhouette, this is SO possible!

Who wouldn’t be inspired to do this when full collections from Crate Paper are available, just a mouse click away?

cp_fourteenfull_preview_grandeCrate Paper’s Fourteen Full Collection is now available at acdigitals.com.  Click on the above collection image to be taken directly to the product pages at AC Digitals.

Altered Mini Day Planner using Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit

1

I love finding things to alter in my local thrift store.  I found this mini day planner, pictured below, at the Hospice of Amador County Thrift Store last week—the purchase price—30 cents! Wowee!

2

I thought it would be fun to give the above planner a makeover with the NEW Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit now available at Digital Project Life and fill it with recent photos of my family.  This post will include LOTS of pictures and a synopsis of how I gave the above mini planner some TLC and transformed it into a brag book that easily fits in my purse.  It holds three dividers, one for pictures of me and my husband, pictures of my children--Brandi, Jake, Gwen, and Raiden--and pictures of places we’ve visited, like Disneyland and the beach.

The planner was already sturdy, with a binding system—that’s a plus-so I thought I would just print some of the filler cards from the digital kit onto some printable cotton canvas to cover the planner and make it more “me”.  To do this, I opened the planner and placed it down onto some white cardstock and used a black pen to trace around it and the closure in order to get the basic shape of the planner.  Then I scanned this sheet into my computer, retrieved it in Photoshop Elements, and cleaned up the file by erasing the white space, and saved it as a png file to open in the Silhouette Studio software.  When I retrieved the file in the Silhouette Studio software, I traced it to make it a cut file, and then reduced the size to 95%, so that it would be just the size to fit inside the shape of the planner, not cover it completely—I wanted the sewn seam to show on the outside.  Then I filled the shape with some filler cards from the digital kit.  I printed it onto the printable cotton canvas and then cut it using the appropriate setting  for the media used.  I applied it to the top of the planner and the closure—it was very easy—after all this printable cotton has a sticky back which is very convenient and crafter-friendly.  Yay!  I also printed and cut some of the filler cards with a button cut file and washi tape cut file onto the printable cotton canvas to make embellishments.  For the buttons, I also cut complimentary chipboard to back the buttons for weight.  The buttons were machine sewn onto the photo layouts.

Here are some pictures of the inside of the little planner utilizing Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit with my family photos inside (backed with kraft cardstock), some journaling cards in the pockets, and a pen in the holder.  Following the pictures, I will post some information regarding Maggie Holmes’ new kit at Digital Project Life as well as a list of the cut files I used from the Silhouette America Online Store.  I hope you like it as much as I do. It really feels good in my hands.  This supply will be something I will look for in future thrifting. I kept the left side blank of each spread, so that I can add pictures in the future quite easily.
