Color Combos Galore #236!

236cr

This week, I got most of my inspiration from Inspiration Photo 1/Focus on Trend Banners by assembling the banner shown which is a stamp from Unity Stamp Company’s KOM from March 2012.  I also pulled the image of the elephant as my focal image in the jar which is from Glitz Girls Yours Truly Element Pack 2 (available at jessicasprague.com).  The straws in the jar inspired me to use bakers twine. The font on the banner inspired the sentiment at the bottom of the tag which is from another Unity Stamp Company KOM from December 2012.

I was further inspired by Inspiration Photo 4 with the clock--it's nestled in my banner--and I used the jar as a holding cage for the elephant. The heart in the middle of the balloon was punched from a book because of the books behind the clock in Inspiration Photo 4.

This was a most excellent inspiration board, don’t you think?

Art Journal Girl Coasters Set

drink close-uplg

I created the above coasters gift set using the first art journal girl from Nancie Rowe Janitz’s Art Journal Girls: My Soul Listens—now available at jessicasprague.com.  She is an 8-x-10-inch art journal girl straight from Nancie’s own art journal. She’s delightful to print on canvas, frame for home decor, gifts, paper crafting, or working her into your own art journals.  I’m hoping Nancie comes out with more art journal girls, so I can add to the above coasters set.  They’d be great to trade for swaps, etc.

To make each coaster, I mod-podged the images, at various image sizes, to chipboard, layered more mod-podge, and followed up with layers of polyurethane for shine and durability as they ARE coasters after all. The box is made from chipboard as well with Nancie’s Art Journal Girl images attached with pop dots for dimension.

I thought the set could reside on a shelf until ready to use for special occasions. What do you think?

The entire project was a print-and-cut using my Silhouette Portrait—of course, right?  I used Lori Whitlock’s A2 Card & Envelope Magazine Holder #2 as the coaster holder but used her shaped flat cards from the A2 Card & Envelope Magazine Holder #1 and #2 sets.  These are fabulous cut files recently released in the Silhouette Online Store.

Below are a ton of pictures from this coaster gift set.  Hope you like!

Sweet Stories Tags

tags

I’ve been digital paper piecing with my Silhouette Portrait again.  This time I used Nancie Rowe Janitz’s Sweet Stories 1 Kit (now available at jessicasprague.com) to piece together the “She Sprouted Bitty Wings” stamp from Unity Stamp Company on the tag on the right in the above image (see digital paper piecing process from this blog post).

The tag on the left was put together using pieces from Sweet Stories 1 with bits and pieces from other Nancie Rowe Janitz kits.

With both tags, I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads using various colors, mostly black soot but also pumice, wild honey, and peeled paint.  I added some machine stitching to both tags.  To tie them off, I tied them with serged fabric I had lying around from previous sewing/serging projects.  The Unity stamp was printed-and-cut from cardstock and then mounted to a chipboard piece that was cut using my Silhouette Portrait.  After it was pieced together, it was mounted to the tag with dimensional pop-dots to give it even more dimension.  Glossy accents were applied to the flowers and heart in the above tag.

Color Combos Galore Combo #235: Yummy!

235.cr_card

For my focus this week, I selected Inspiration Photo #1/Focus on Texture: Dry Embossing to emboss the base of my card using a Cuttlebug embossing folder called Moroccan Screen. I also embossed the cone of the ice cream to mimic a real cone using an old Sizzix Texture Plate.
I pulled other Inspiration from Inspiration Photo #2: frames (idea: frames in carousel); and Inspiration Photo #3: Silhouette die cut (idea: tag border patterns)

I filled the shapes that make up the card with the color RGB values from the challenge in the Silhouette software and processed them as a print-and-cut. I love how the seafoam turned out.  It’s such a pretty color.

Would you get the message I was sending if you received this card from me?  If you knew me pretty well, you’d know how much I love ice cream AND that I’m sending you a triple scoop of my love.  If I loved you a lot, you’d receive a gift certificate with the card for Munnerlyn’s Ice Creamery in Pine Grove, CA.

Crate Paper’s Toy Box and Our Beautiful Boy

crobinson_030413lg2

Crate Paper’s Toy Box Full Collection is now available at AC Digitals.com.  SUPER fun collection.  The embellishments were my favorite part of this collection.  There’s just so many fun things to play with as you can see in the above layout of our beautiful boy, Raiden.

Raiden is my little man of the house and he always has something to say that makes me think and warms my heart. He has the best perspective on life. People are always complimenting him on his good attitude, manners, and politeness. I think he takes after his daddy. He’s a very kind, caring, and beautiful boy. We are very proud of who he is now and who he will become.

On this 8-1/2-x-11-inch layout, I used my Silhouette Portrait to print-and-cut the embellishments and wordart on this page.  This time I wanted to use the rhinestone feature of the software to add a border template around my picture.  Instead of using rhinestones, I used embroidery thread in the template instead.  Another tip, I added one of the kit’s buttons to a real-life white button and tied a bow in some bakers twine for a fun little embellishment. The journaling above the picture was attached to a popsicle stick.  To do this, I scanned an actual popsicle stick into my computer and used it as a template in Photoshop Elements 11 to insert paper from the kit and the text shown.  Then I retrieved it in the Silhouette software and processed it as a print-and-cut that I adhered to the popsicle stick.  I love that you can make templates from real-life elements by scanning them.

Color Combos Galore Combo #234

234.cr_card I selected Inspiration Photo 4, Focus on Patterns, Maps as my focus challenge with this week’s color combination.

To add to that, I was inspired by each of the other focuses as well and somehow managed to fold those into the mix—SO fun!

The little girl is a stamp from Unity Stamp Company by Phyllis Harris called Every Breath.  I got this stamp a couple of weeks ago and scanned her in to my computer as soon as I got her!  The little girl is a pretty good size, so I didn’t resize her.  I just wanted my Silhouette Portrait to cut her out for me once digitally pieced and then cut a layer out using chipboard for added weight.  Because I didn’t resize the stamp, I could emboss over her for added dimension once put together—I love this look—and it went together pretty well.  She is digitally paper pieced with a pattern made using a Photoshop brush by SplendidFiins called Brilliant Background Brushes and colors from the color challenge.

She’s holding a dandelion which brings me to Inspiration Photo 2, Focus on Product, Flowers. The edges of the card and map were both inked around the edges, for Inspiration Photo 3, Focus on Technique, Inked Edges. The backdrop for the scene is a map which was a Photoshop brush I found online and used in combination with the color challenge.

All in all, I was pretty satisfied by the results. What do you think?
